Yuroke Rd Sewer Pump Station & Rising Main

Yuroke Rd Sewer Pump Station & Rising Main

Greenvale, Vic

Project Duration

January 2024 to January 2025

Client

Yarra Valley Water

Project Value

$ 4.7m

Jaydo was engaged by Yarra Valley Water for the construction of a new sewer pump station and sewer rising main in the Greenvale area to meet rapidly increasing residential development requirements.

The scope of works included the following:

  • Construction and installation of a sewer pump station featuring a 11.5m deep x 4m dia GRP
wet well, valve chamber and 2x manholes
  • Construction of 235m of sewer rising main including a HDD drill shot under Brodies Creek
  • Emergency relief structure
  • Gravity sewer pipe DN300 GRP

key challenges

  • Extreme groundwater conditions due to a combination of high flow rate & pressurisation which caused issues when selecting backfill material – too much water ruins certain materials. Jaydo’s solution was
to use cement stabilised sand for backfilling around the wet well tank and Class 3 crushed concrete around the manholes whilst continuously pumping groundwater during the backfill works.
  • The site had asbestos contamination from a previous demolition that had occurred. Asbestos contractors & hygienists were required to remove the contaminated material prior to any works starting on site.
  • Being a narrow and tight site provided challenges when stockpiling and separating materials (estimated approx. 3,000m3 required for backfilling works). Jaydo took advantage of the steep terrain, filling the low sections of the site to create a trackable stockpile and prevent cross contamination of the various materials.

key innovations

  • Use of natural topography to maximise stockpiling space
  • Reused majority of excavated rock within crane pad by welding extra steel to sieve bucket
  • Separation and reuse of crane pad material into site bulk backfill
  • Prefabricated cylindrical reinforcement cages for manholes
  • Batter stairs were used for the purpose of an all weather access track from the access road to the site excavation
  • Bypass pumps were used for the purpose of eliminating the need for sucker trucks at one of the manholes, as this particular manhole was at the lowest point of the outfall sewer
