The Werribee Recycled Water Expansion is a multi-stage strategy to substantially expand the recycled water supply network in the Werribee catchment and secure a high reliability, low salt, fit-for-purpose alternative water source for a large range of key customers in the western region.
The Werribee Zoo Recycled Water Pipeline is the first stage of this strategy and includes construction of a recycled water pipeline from Greater Western Water’s Werribee Recycled Water Plant (WRWP) to the Werribee Open Range Zoo (WORZ) by way of a 2.8km DN600 MSCL pipeline.
key challenges
A technical challenging project, the crew successfully delivered a 600mm diameter mild steel and 710mm HDPE recycled water pipeline using conventional open cut trenching & horizontal directional drilling methods. The HDD alignment was delivered through difficult ground conditions, from the zoo, underneath the Werribee River to the western side of the river, at a total of 425m in length and depth of 40m whilst in close proximity to Viva’s WAG and BOPL pipelines.
key innovations
Jaydo engaged the use of Brownline HDD tracking technology to satisfy VIVA that the position of the HDD drill head could be tracked to +/- 50mm in real time.
