Melbourne Water engaged Jaydo to deliver waterway rehabilitation works along the Yarra River in Warburton. To mitigate embankment erosion, Jaydo employed rock beaching methods alongside the innovative in-house construction of pile fields—six timber groynes designed to reduce sediment entering the river and stabilise the riverbanks.
key challenges
- Sensitive cultural heritage overlay of the area required minimal ground disturbance.
- Access restrictions along the Yarra River made it challenging to carry out the works. To manage this, Jaydo built a temporary working platform that allowed construction to safely continue and the project to be completed.
- Rock was encountered during the piling activities. To be able to continue with the works, Jaydo engaged a rock auger head to drill through the rock layers.
key innovations
- Jaydo developed in-house a purpose built vibration plate for the insertion of the timber piles, as minimal ground disturbance was of high priority due to the sensitive cultural heritage overlays. In
addition to this, pre-drilling of the piles was completed prior to the pile driving to prevent noisy works. - Jaydo obtained approval from Melbourne Water to temporarily divert the existing course of the Yarra River around the work site, aligning with the overall design intent.
Value for money
- Jaydo researched and developed in-house suitable piling equipment for the timber pile insertion within the Yarra River.
- Jaydo offered a full turn-key solution with all construction activities performed in-house.
