The purpose of the project was to construct a new bypass sewer pump station within the existing Wallan Sewerage Treatment Plant, for the purpose of transferring excess incoming sewage flows to the Lockerbie Branch Sewer.
The project scope included the construction of a new cast-insitu pump station, valve pit and flowmeter pit. A secant pile shaft was constructed to enable bulk excavation of the wet well (6m dia, 11m deep) and inlet maintenance hole (2.4m dia, 10m deep) within a constrained site footprint in less than favourable ground conditions.
key challenges
- The completion of works within an operational facility, which required frequent communication between Jaydo and YVW personnel during scheduling of high impact works (eg. significant material deliveries, plant mobilisation as well as minor impacts to plant access routes)
- Ground conditions within the works area were less than favourable and required Jaydo to implement the use of a temporary works design (secant pile shaft) to enable shaft excavation for the wet well and inlet maintenance hole.
