Project Duration >
September to October 2024

Melbourne Water
Project Value >
$ 370k
Jaydo recently delivered the replacement of an old valve actuator access tower at the bottom of the Silvan Reservoir for client Melbourne Water.
Partnering with Southern Divers and P&D Cranes, the works proceeded with an exothermic cutting system to dismantle the existing structure underwater, with careful precision and manoeuvre of the crane to completely remove it from site. An innovative redesign of the access bridge was delivered closely with the client to improve structural rigidity and reduce the weight.
key challenges
- Restricted access to the work area, thus detailed site measures and inspections were limited as the majority of the work area was below water and also increased the risk of the new structure not lining up with the existing valve spindles and mounting points
- The crane work zone was heavily impacted by surrounding trees and sloping terrain which meant that detailed lift plans and travel paths had to be used
key innovations
- The access bridge was redesigned to utilise a handrail truss design in lieu of a girder style, this reduced deflection and weight by two-thirds
value for money
An efficient project with majority of the work completed off-site and only two weeks of on-site works required to assemble and install the new structures.
