The Rockbank SPS Diversion Pipeline involved the installation of ~1.7km of new OD560 HDPE Sewer Rising Main (SRM), connecting from the existing OD450 Rockbank SRM across to the newly installed Grand Boulevard SRM. The project was delivered via open cut trenching in highly rocky terrain, utilising Jaydo’s in house plant and labour to quickly break down the rock and install the pipeline in accordance with client program requirements.
To commission the pipeline, Jaydo successfully executed the complex shutdown and flow management of the Rockbank SPS, including the installation of a duty/standby pumping system to fill eduction trucks directly to ensure that the high sewage flows could be adequately met and managed.
key challenges
- Extremely rocky terrain and a tight construction corridor
- Service clashes along the alignment, requiring agile assessment and redesign to ensure that program works could continue without undue delay
- Program management; Full site access was not granted throughout the delivery due to conflicting projects in the vicinity. Jaydo successfully managed the program to alleviate these access issues, and
subsequently commissioned the pipeline less than 3 weeks after receiving access to the final 100m of the project alignment.
key innovations
Jaydo was required to connect a new pipeline into an existing gravity sewer under live flow conditions. A traditional bypass arrangement was not possible due to access restrictions for the upstream/downstream manholes, so to alleviate this issue Jaydo implemented a bespoke flow through pipe arrangement that protected sewage flow through the affected manhole while the cut-in works were completed.
value for money
Jaydo reviewed the supplied IFC drawings during the procurement phase and were able to identify alternative fittings and redundant valves within the system which were able to be amended in the
subsequent as-built design to provide substantial savings to the client.
