Construction of wetlands in Pioneer Bay, Victoria. The objective of the works was to alleviate flows in Melbourne Water creek’s to reduce erosion and within BCSC’s underground drainage system to reduce flooding. As well as to provide quality stormwater treatment to reduce pollutants discharged to Western Port Bay.
The scope of works was delivered over to separate packages and included:
Package A: Pioneer Bay Wetland & Swale included construction of a sediment basin and wetlands. The scope of works included construction of a DN900 pipeline through the wetland system to improve floor protection, waterway health and storm water issues by diverting flows and BCSC drainage into the proposed wetlands. As well as construction of a high flow bypass swale to provide protection to the wetland system from high flows entering from the DN900 pipeline.
Package B: Pioneer Bay Wetland Levee & Creek Remediation Works included construction of levee embankments along the north and south boundaries of BCSC land, through existing depression of the wetland outfall, residential properties and neighbouring farmland, to avoid any flood impacts due to the increased flow capacity.
