The Mt Martha Sludge Drying Pans (SDP) and Sludge Stockpile Area (SSA) upgrade project was constructed as part of the ZJW JV for South East Water. The scope of works included regrading of the existing SDP’s & SSA 009 clay liners (floors and batters) and placement of a cement treated crushed rock (CTCR) layer to the base of each pan.
key challenges
- Works were heavily weather dependent as the clay material was slippery to work on during heavy rain days
- Coordinating works located within an operational treatment plant
- Working with contaminated material (CAT C) and residual sludge in harvested pans
project outcomes
These works assisted SEW to minimise disturbance of the clay liner during SDP harvesting operations and thus no longer required ‘topping up’ and reinstatement.
