The basin construction involved excavation of 45,000m3 of insitu material and placement of 15,000m3 of selected fill material under full time Level 1 supervision. Once constructed, the basin was lined with Haogenplast 1.1mm lining material, supplied by a specialist lining contractor engaged directly by Jaydo.

Works also included the construction of 400 lm of DN600 MSCL inlet and outlet pipe works and 120m of DN600 PE pipeline. A twin 90kW filter backwash pump station was also constructed as part of the project, along with new switchboard to power the pumps.

key challenges

  • Constructing the basin with 1:2 batter
  • Wet weater conditions caused programme disruptions
  • Delivering works inside the existing treatment plant
  • The presence of excessive sand lenses

value for money

With natural springs located inside the construction footprint, the Jaydo team successfully managed works alongside these without disruption to the springs.
