The Mini-Hydro Development Scheme endeavours to harness excess hydraulic energy at five sites in the Melbourne water supply system. The mini hydros represent a minor part of Melbourne Water’s goal to reduce operational energy costs and expansion of energy generation in Melbourne.
Jaydo was awarded all five mini-hydro projects, with scope comprising civil, mechanical and electrical works. The five sites include works within operational sites at the following locations: Boronia, Wantirna, Cardinia, Dandenong and Mount Waverly.
The works at these sites involve the following:
- Civil works for installation of new site main switchboard and kiosk substation
- VEDN accredited conduit installation for electrical works including trenching, installation of conduits and pits for electrical cables
- Full reinstatement, including gravel access track and hardstand area
- Modification to existing MSCL pipework
- Valves, bypass flow control
- Flowmeters, dismantling joints
- Corrosion protection
- Post & panel retaining wall, galvanised mild steel access stairs & hand railing
Project Outcomes
Our involvement in high-level discussions with our client in the early stages of design ensured a clear concise understanding of requirements. This meant a greater knowledge of the method and requirements by all parties, thereby mitigating potential construction, safety, environmental or design risks and issues during construction.
