JAYDO was awarded the Kennedy’s Drive Sewer Pump Station (SPS) and Wet Weather Detention (WWD) Storage project by Central Highlands Water in December 2016. The scope of works included:
- Construction of a 10m deep, 4m internal diameter cast in-situ epoxy coated concrete wet well
- Construction of new precast concrete valve pit & flowmeter pit
- Supply & install mechanical equipment including 2x submersible pumps, DI discharge & scour pipework, valves, pipe supports and fittings
- Installation of Wet Weather Detention Storage including 16x 175kL GRP tanks, riser, interconnecting pipework and precast concrete manholes
- Installation of 70m of DN600 GRP gravity main and ERS pipework in road reserve
- Installation of 90m of DN400 PN16 PE Rising Main & DICL pipework in road reserve
- Electrical works including design and construct of a new main switch board, telemetry and ancillary equipment;
- Design and construct retaining wall
- Construction of the car park, fencing and remaining civil items
key challenges
- Load restrictions atop the 175kl tanks meant only a skid steer could be used to backfill the 16 tanks creating a time-consuming process
- Poor ground conditions required extra support and trench protection systems to ensure safety of onsite personnel
- Weatherproofing site prior to forecasted rainfall events
Key innovations
The crew experienced difficulty preventing the 600mm diameter foam block-outs from floating during pouring of the manhole concrete bases. An engineered solution involved a fabricated steel support frame to support the bottom precast ring and provide added weight to prevent floatation.
