Western Water awarded JAYDO the Grant Street Rising Main project located in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. The project consisted of constructing a sewer pipeline from Grant Street to the Bacchus Marsh Recycled Water Plant, and a water main from Griffith Street to Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Road and East Maddingley Road.
The major scope of works included:
- 3km DN375 DICL pipeline by open cut methods
- 4.7km 610OD MSCL pipeline by open cut methods
- Boring under various locations
- Supply and installation of valves, air valve and pipework connections
The project was delivered through the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, the collaboration between JAYDO, the design consultant CMP, the contract superintendent Stantec as well as our Client Western Water, all worked well together to deliver a quality result, without any major issues. It was a considerable achievement by all to deliver such a vital project for the local community without any major delays.
key challenges
- Delivered through the COVID-19 pandemic
- Required significant project management to manage the complexity of interfaces between various rail, road and environmental protection zones
Value for money
- Raised SRM alignment under the rail line to match the watermain invert and therefore simplify the methodology for laser boring – single mobilisation rather than multiple to accommodate different IL’s
- Laser bored past existing Powercor assets to avoid possible long-term disruption to their customers or increased costs to the project to relocate Powercor assets
- Realignment of section of SRM to avoid existing shallow AC watermain previously unidentified on IFC drawings
- Realignment of section of SRM at Parwan Creek Bridge to avoid existing bored concrete piers previously unidentified on IFC drawings
