The existing Doreen SPS services the local community of Doreen and surroundings. As the existing SPS was reaching its end of life with continual issues, an upgrade of the pumping station was required. Jaydo was awarded the Doreen Flow Control Facility project, the scope of works included:
- Construction of a new pump station next to the existing, including a 6m internal diameter, 14m deep cast in situ wet well, muncher chamber, diversion inlet manhole, flowmeter pit and dosing pit
- Mechanical fitout of all pipework, guide rails, pumps, and associated fittings
- Electrical works including new switchboard, new HV substation installation/facilitation and completion of shelter for new switchboard and VSD cabinet area
key challenges
- Construction of large-scale cast in situ wet well immediately next to the existing concrete structure, use of CFA piling to allow for safe construction and groundwater management
- Due to the size and depth, as well as size and weight of fittings, the mechanical fitout was via crane and man box adding to the complexity of the project
- Existing services within the existing pump station site (overhead and underground power, existing DN900 incoming sewer)
- Delays in commissioning works due to delays by other subcontractors not being completed
- Soil management due to not being allowed
to stockpile excavated material onsite - Facilitating (with ACE Electrical) a successful power switch over the old supply to existing site with a newly installed HV sub station, working with Ausnet
Project outcomes
All works were completed to a high standard and to the satisfaction of Yarra Valley Water. Due to the collaborative approach between Jaydo and YVW, the project was completed with minor delays and using a solutions-based approach, where design issues were quickly resolved to allow continuity of the works. No
LTI’s were recorded and 1 NCR recorded.
Client Feedback
YVW have been very pleased with the quality of works completed by Jaydo, noting attention to detail, the care taken to deliver the job and the pride in what we do. The works were completed prior to requirement of the pump station needing to be operable (due to SRM still in construction) and Jaydo were able to keep the existing sewer pump station in service for the entirety of the job.
