Greater Western Water

Project Value

Spread across 3 separate sites: Dodemaide Circuit Water Pump Station, Bences Road Tanks and Lerderderg Pump Station, works included the design and construction of 180 poly pipe, 2x 30kl poly tanks and a booster pump station, plus the decommissioning and demoliton of the Lerderderg Pump Station once the other faciities were up and running.

key challenges

  • Getting the approval of the Cultural Heritage Management Plan which delays works being continued from Package 1 to Package 2 due to Cultural Heritage artefact identification which will affect panned
    construction methodology
  • Strict conditions under the per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) management plan
  • Communication with LXRA, Victrack and Metro trains due to crossing an under construction train station in Pakenham
  • Crossings under the BassGas pipeline and Dandenong to Morewell Gas Main

Value for money

To meet land requirements and large depths of shafts, SEW and ZJW reached a design and planning solution resulting in continuation of the project in a safe manner, including:

  • Ground conditions, methodologies and environment testing were all part of the required assessments and GRP was proposed to reduce project cost and labour hours
  • Use of HDD and micro tunnelling for road rail and crossings, saving time and project costs
  • Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) management plan in place to manage contamination
  • Global positioning systems used during construction to manage the works in a more advanced manner
