Dodemaide Circuit Water Pump Station Upgrade

Dodemaide Circuit Water Pump Station Upgrade

Bacchus Marsh, Vic

Project Duration

October 2023 to March 2024

Client

Greater Western Water

Project Value

$ 1.6m

Spread across 3 separate sites: Dodemaide Circuit Water Pump Station, Bences Road Tanks and Lerderderg Pump Station, the delivered works in Bacchus Marsh supply water to the rural properties north-east of the town. Jaydo Electrical and Engineering was engaged to deliver the upgrade that included the design and construct of 180 poly pipe, 2x 30kL poly tanks and a booster pump station, plus the decommissioning and demolition of the Lerderderg Pump Station once the other facilities were up and running.

  • The new Dodemaide Water Pump Station now pumps drinking water to the existing McMullins tank and the new Bences Road tanks. It will also be used to supply the Bences Road and Gisborne Road (high) zone when the McMullins Road tank is taken offline for maintenance.
  • The new tanks at Bences Road will be equipped with PRV’s and flow control / altitude valves so the tanks can be filled via the new Dodemaide Water Pump Station or the McMullins tanks via gravity. The new chlorination system at the Bences Road site will be used to dose and analyse the water at Bences Road tanks site before it gravity feeds into the Gisborne Road supply zone.
  • The existing Lerderderg Water Pump Station, which currently fills the existing Bences Road Tanks will be made redundant, decommissioned, and demolished after the Dodemaide WPS and new Bences Road facilities are commissioned and in service.

key challenges

  • As the site had significant Aboriginal cultural heritage, any personnel that was involved in any ground disturbance activity required a CHMP induction
  • Native flora and fauna awareness
  • Works delivered in the road reserve
  • Operational plant required detailed cutover planning and methodology
  • Unknown services resulting in change in the pipe installation methodology
  • A building permit requirement for the construction of the water pump station building

key innovations

  • Detailed design using PowerCAD software which determined inadequate power supply capacity led to the upgrade of the mains power supply
  • The early identification and planning of the cutover strategy to include in design led to the smooth cutover of the tanks without any water supply outages
  • Friendly liaison with the neighbouring farmer allowed for storage of the tanks in their paddocks next door to the site which greatly assisted with the tank replacement process
