Dights Falls Embankment Reinstatement

Dights Falls Embankment Reinstatement

Dights Falls, Yarra River, Vic

Project Duration

February to March 2025

Client

Melbourne Water

Project Value

$ 380k

Jaydo was engaged by Melbourne Water for the rectification and reinforcement of the Dights Falls embankment which included the strategic placement of 2,000 tonnes of rock beaching material
(approximately 70 lineal metres), delivered adjacent to a shared user path.

Works were undertaken in a culturally sensitive area and were undertaken in accordance with Cultural Heritage Management Plant requirements, requiring works supervision by a member of the RAP.

key challenges

  • Given the state of the existing riverbank and it’s close proximity to a shared user path, works were completed in a high risk stakeholder environment with pedestrian and cyclists diversions required for the duration of the works.
  • Sensitive cultural heritage overlay of the area prohibited excavation works to the existing Yarra River embankment. Construction activities were delivered via a working platform constructed within the Yarra River.
  • Ongoing maintenance to uphold the integrity of the Yarra Main Trail concrete footpath.

key innovations

  • Developed tailored procedures for working within the Yarra River base.
  • Implemented targeted traffic management strategies to safely redirect pedestrians and cyclists during the Yarra Main Trail closure.
  • Utilised a grab bucket to expediate the rock beaching construction.
  • Minimised the construction footprint to reduce environmental and community impact.

value for money

  • Jaydo adopted constructive methodologies to provide maximum productivity over the reduced project timeframe.
  • Jaydo consulted with and obtained all necessary permits from Yarra Council for works required, on behalf of Melbourne Water.
