Bairnsdale WRP Interim Upgrade

Bairnsdale WRP Interim Upgrade

Bairnsdale, Vic

Project Duration

May 2024 to October 2025

Client

East Gippsland Water

Project Value

$ 2.5m

Jaydo was engaged by East Gippsland Water for the interim upgrades to the Bairnsdale Water Recycling Plant, including works to the activated sludge plant, final treatment lagoon, ferric dosing basin and the wet weather flow management. Works included civil, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and structural.

key challenges

  • As this was an operating WRP, minimising impact to day to day operations was of high priority whilst completing major works to the multiple components of the treatment facility. Works had to be meticulously planned to not disrupt the operations.
  • In addition, temporary earth bunds were constructed around planned causeway locations to allow works to proceed without disrupting to the treatment plant operations.

Key Innovations

  • The 20t precast walls were poured on a raised temporary timber deck, this enabled the leak stops on the back side of the tapered walls to be cast as one pour, this process helped minimise the duration of
these works and had less impact to the treatment plant operations
  • Progressively enhancing the design with constructability input
  • Precast causeway section on site, away from lagoons minimising the risk of working near water and impacts on plant operation. Significant cost reduction compared to the original cast in situ methodology

Value for money

  • Jaydo self performed all major components of the project to maximise efficiency and minimise subcontractor related risks
  • Collectively review and update design to suit efficient construction methodology
  • One Team Approach
