Aintree Sewer Pump Station
Aintree (Rockbank), Vic
Project Duration >
October 2018 to December 2019
Client >
Spiire / Greater Western Water (formerly Western Water)
Project Value >
$ 4m
Due to the increase in housing development, an upgrade to the local community of Aintree’s sewer networks was required, with the requirement for a new pump station. Jaydo was awarded the Aintree Sewer Pump Station (as well as associated SRM (Sewer Rising Main) project that included the following:
- Construction of a new pump station next to the existing pump station that included 3.6m internal diameter, 12m deep cast in situ wet well, inlet manhole, 3x chamber diversion pit, flowmeter pit and dosing facility
- Installation of a temporary bypass arrangement to allow sewer to flow to the downstream pump station, allowing the sewer network to continue whilst the new pump station was built. Note – this was installed after Jaydo had successfully completed the new DN450 SRM to downstream pump station in Rockbank
- Supply and installation of 2x 105kW submersible pump including complete fitout of the pump station and related pipework, guide rails and associated fittings
- All electrical works including supply and installation of new 630amps main switchboard, motor control centre with 216amps Yaskawa VSD’s, 330KVA Penske standby diesel generator, pole mounted area lighting and VEDN works to interface with new kiosk substation
- Complete testing, commissioning and handover of the system
key challenges
- Construction of large-scale cast in situ wet well within area containing hard rock
- Existing services within the existing pump station site, which included a newly installed DN900 incoming sewer pipeline
- Groundwater management within wet well excavation (located in the last 4m of excavation)
- Working alongside land development areas and Winslow to allow both parties to minimise any delays
- Delays to the mains power connection which were due to delays by the power distributor
- Operation of pump station with temporary generator arrangement
Project Outcomes and Client Feedback
- The Aintree SPS was successfully commissioned, put into service and handed over to the Western Water Operations team in December 2019.
- Jaydo and Spiire used a collaborative approach with any issues that arose during the project, offering several solutions to allow for quick resolution.
- No LTIs occurred and no NCRs were issued throughout the project.
Western Water were very pleased with the quality of works completed by JAYDO, continuing our success from previously completed projects including the Thornhill Park SPS project. This has allowed JAYDO the opportunity to continue our relationship with Western Water, having been awarded the Grant Street SPS project that involved a successful delivery of similar works to these previous two projects.
