Aberfeldie Stormwater Drainage Improvement Project

Aberfeldie Stormwater Drainage Improvement Project

Aberfeldie, Vic

Project Duration

November 2015 to June 2016

Client

CBP for Melbourne Water

Project Value

$ 4.7m

JAYDO was awarded the Aberfeldie Stormwater Drainage Improvement Project by Melbourne Water Framework Partner, CPB. The project required the  installation of a new  stormwater drain in Aberfeldie to provide protection to properties from the impacts of flooding during heavy rainfall events. The new drain is 1.6km long and ranges in diameters from 0.45m up to 2.1m.

The scope of works also included complete replacement of asphalt for the full road width ensuring Jaydo left the area in a much superior condition than when works started.

With the project being carried out within a residential environment, a key requirement for the client was to minimise impacts of these significant works to the local community. To achieve this, Jaydo worked closely with the City of Moonee Valley, local schools and residents to minimise the effects of construction on the local community and environment.

key challenges

Construction of the Aberfeldie drain required considerable proactive environment controls due to construction adjacent to the Maribyrnong River. This included insertion of a silt curtain, sheet piling and dewatering control
measures.

Jaydo endeavoured to minimise the construction footprint to allow access for residents to their driveways. This flexible approach to the needs of local residents required a range of engineering solutions to enable the construction of shafts and trenches up to 7m deep.

key outcomes

Jaydo were able to mobilise multiple crews of plant and personnel to adapt to the needs of the project, reducing the overall construction program and minimising impact to the community, to the satisfaction of the client.
