Delivered over a 6 year period, Jaydo successfully completed the upgrade of 39km of modernised pipeline and 150 flowmeter outlets for the Werribee Irrigation District Modernisation (WIDM) Scheme for client, Southern Rural Water. The project was jointly funded by Southern Rural Water, the Victorian Government and the Australian Government through the National Water Grid Fund.

Initially awarded Stages 2 and 3 of the modernisation, delivered in the winters of 2018 and 2019, Jaydo decommissioned over 20km of the existing concrete channel, upgrading this with buried pipelines and the installation of customer flowmeter outlets. From 2020, Jaydo was awarded and continued to deliver Stages 4 and 5 of the modernisation works, delivering another 16.2km of modernised pipeline and outlets.

  • Actively engaged with farmers to locate outlets in agreed locations, managing each of the outlet designs individually to suit both the farmers and Southern Rural Water
  • Assisted Southern Rural Water when dealing with difficult customers such as Hacketts Road and developed solutions
  • Staggered construction windows during winter to allow for water deliveries each fortnight
  • Management of multiple work fronts with 4 to 5 small crews operating individually to achieve high quality outcomes to program
    timeline
  • Import of materials (eg. fill, bedding, pipe, fittings) to construction corridors due to muddy farm access’ from constant watering
  • Various unknown farm and property damage services were not shown on the Issued for Construction drawings, nor the BYDA plans

key innovations & value add

  • Redesign of customer outlet pits to increase installation efficiencies
  • Proactively identified and resolved design issues
  • Proactively communicated with farmers and various stakeholders
  • Redesign of the temporary pipeline risers to create back pressure to allow for water deliveries
  • Redesign of the driveway / road crossings allowing for unimpeded flow of construction, including sleeving of existing pipelines and new Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
  • Regulator project works were completed 6 weeks ahead of scheduled PC date
  • Redesign of various elements of the Mc Murrays Weir Regulator to hasten project delivery
  • Design and installation of numerous temporary open drain access crossings allowing for access to construction corridors whilst preserving stakeholders access and land
  • Utilisation of social inclusion subcontractors such as First Nations Traffic Management and SheForce
  • Emergency replacement of 300m of aged pipework which failed under additional applied pressures from the new system. These works were conducted whilst flows to existing farmers were maintained.
