Jaydo was engaged by GWW for the design and construct project to replace three aging water mains within Pascoe Vale Road in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
- Installation of 1.4km of 502mm MSCL transfer main
- 1.1km of 280mm PE main
- 300m slip lined 180mm retic water mains
- 90+ property connections and 20+ retic/branch connections
- Decommission 1km of 375 CI main, 300 CI main and 100 CI mains within Pascoe Vale Rd
key challenges
- Construction of large 502mm main within small works corridor in heavily built-up residential area
- Construction within Pascoe Vale Road, highly trafficked road with tram tracks and significant commercial/residential considerations
- Works within restricted traffic times for both road and tram traffic
- Excavation within areas of abundant existing and redundant services/assets
key innovations & outcomes
- Rolling road closures – works were completed one block at a time to minimise road closure impacts in the area
- Mixture of day and night works
- Construction methodology changes – used trenchless installation for the new alignment for retic mains, which meant no temporary supplies were required
- Consultation manager was used so the project had full time stakeholder engagement
