$ 6.2m

The Officer South Pump Station Upgrade project was delivered on South East Water’s largest sewer pump station as part of the Pipes & Structures Capital Works Delivery Panel. Jaydo was engaged to repair the deteriorating epoxy coating, resolve sewerage turbulence, hydraulic issues and upgrade the pump station to cater for future flows of the south eastern growth corridor of Melbourne.

A key to the success of the project included the commissioning of a complex flow management plan, designed to cater to peak wet weather flows of 690 L/s. This included the use of 2x 44kW electric pumps feeding up to 2x Godwin CD300 diesel bypass pumps, as the diesel pumps alone were unable to achieve the required suction lift. Permanent bypass pipework was also constructed.

Scope of works included:

  • Wet well hydraulic upgrades including installation of a 560kW pump, DN600 stainless steel
    pipework
  • Odour management system (DN600 GRP)
  • Protective coating of wet well using Sewpercoat (Calcium Aluminate Cement)
  • Associated electrical upgrades
  • Civil works including upgrade of the emergency relief structure and driveway alterations

key challenges

  • Actual sewerage flows were far greater than what was initially forecasted
  • Permanent bypass pumping throughout the duration of works
  • Management of works within a live and critical asset
  • Extensive H2S corrosion within wet well
  • Multiple 24 hour shudowns

key innovations

  • Significant upfront time was invested by Jaydo to develop a Flow Management Plan in consultation with South East Water operations
  • A thorough blasting and cleaning of the chambers was completed prior to the coating works
  • A six level scaffold system was installed to provide access to the 13m deep chamber
