Jaydo was engaged by Melbourne Water to enhance the bathymetry of the existing Hallam Valley wetlands. The project involved constructing 2,000 tonnes of rock-lined channels and undertaking 3,500m³ of earthworks for regrading. Excavated material, which was contaminated with alligator weed, was managed and buried on-site in accordance with Agriculture Victoria permit conditions.
key challenges
- Frequent flooding of the wetland site posed a significant challenge. Due to the existing wetland schematics, diverting upstream water flows was not feasible. To manage this, Jaydo deployed a bypass system comprising 2 x 200mm, 4 x 150mm, and 2 x 75mm diesel pumps to redirect incoming
flows.
key innovations
- Low ground pressure earthmoving equipment was used to minimise disturbance to existing ground conditions.
- Strategic schematic planning reduced the site’s exposure to flooding.
- Multiple work crews operated concurrently, helping to shorten the overall project duration and mitigate flood-related risks.
value for money
- Jaydo delivered a complete turnkey solution with minimal need for client oversight.
- All construction activities were undertaken in-house, ensuring efficiency and cost effectiveness.
