Boneo Treatment Plant Clarifier & Aerators Upgrade

Boneo, Vic

Project Duration

February to August 2017

Client

South East Water

Project Value

$ 4m

Jaydo was engaged by South East Water for the design and construction of the Boneo Treatment Plant Clarifier and Aerators Upgrade project. The works included rehabilitation of the concrete structure of the clarifier and rebuild of the aerators and walkways mechanical systems, including electrical and controls.

The Boneo Water Recycling Plant, Stage 3C, upgrade is part of a major upgrade requested by South East Water. The upgrade is required to adequately treat the additional wastewater due to increasing flows from growth in the catchment, including the additional sewage collected via the Peninsula ECO backlog program.

The scope of works entailed the design of an upgrade for the aerobic digesters as well as a full refurbishment of existing clarifier 1A. The existing clarifier was drained, cleaned and coating repairs undertaken, in addition to the installation of a new clarifier at the plant. Further to this, the designed aerators were installed and all electrical, mechanical and structural works undertaken to complete the project.

The scope of works includes:

  • Rehabilitation of the clarifier’s mechanical and concrete elements
  • Inlet and outlet reinstallation

key challenges

Delivering major construction works within a treatment plant was an environmental risk, a solution for the concrete rehab prevented any harm to this.

Value for money

A key element of the works was the investigation of the concrete condition which was unknown at the inception of the project. Jaydo evaluated the situation and designed a solution that provided South East Water with a long asset life, as well as reduced cost, materials and time for the project as a whole.
