Bayview Road Retarding Basin

Bayview Road Retarding Basin

Officer, Vic

Project Duration

August 2020

Client

Sandridge Roads

Project Value

$ 1.5m

The project involved the bulk earthworks and excavation to construct a temporary retarding basin on Bayview Rd in Officer, to form part of the drainage and stormwater management for the nearby housing subdivisions.

The scope of works included construction of bulk earthworks, drainage pipes and pits as part of the outfall, a structural concrete weir and rock beaching.

key challenges

The job was constructed within an area that had live waterflows and required water management and a diversion channel to complete. There was a local school nearby in the downstream direction, which meant water flows had to be carefully managed to avoid any flooding occurring. The site was also
previously a dam, which meant the material being excavated was at times saturated and soft, and required careful project planning to complete. Dump trucks were utilised to handle the excavated material and transport onsite. The project also required careful environmental planning and consideration.

Project Outcomes

The project was successfully completed on time and on budget, with minimal delays and challenges.

The delivery of these works has now helped manage the stormwater flows from the nearby estates for the local residents.
