JAYDO was engaged by Yarra Valley Water for the Monbulk Sewerage Pumping Station and Rising Main project, within the grounds of Baynes Park Reserve. The project involved the construction of 2km of a 180mm diameter pressure sewer, constructed through the environmentally sensitive surrounds of Sassafras Creek and surrounding areas.
The scope of works included:
- Construction of precast wet well, muncher chamber and in-situ inlet structure including the installation of submersible pumps, pipework, valves, access covers and pipe supports
- Construction of an above ground pump station including mechanical and electrical works
- Trenchless construction of approximately 1,640m of DN180 PE SDR9 PN20 Rising Main
- Decommissioning of the Monbulk Sewerage Treatment Plant and rehabilitate the site
For protection of the surrounds, an environmentally sensitive solution was developed.
key challenges
- Excavation of the below ground pump station was beneath the water table, which required a 24/7 dewatering system to manage the inflows
- Due to traces of heavy metals within the groundwater, a temporary onsite water treatment facility was also established, with all groundwater treated before offsite disposal
Key innovations
Trenchless installation of the pipeline provided a reduced working footprint and reduced impact to the local residents.
